The Minor in Arabic Studies

Queens College, Department of Classical, Middle Eastern, and Asian Languages and Cultures

Required (a minimum of 18 credits) Three or four semesters of Arabic study (at an appropriate level) and two or three semesters in courses taught in English relevant to the history and civilization of Islam and the literature and culture of the Arab world, chosen in consultation with the Minor advisor. A cumulative 2.0 grade-point average must be maintained in all courses toward the minor and at least 9 of the 18 Credits must be at the 200 level or above.

Electives in History, Civilization, Literature, Culture and Language

At least 6 Credits of Electives: Courses taught in English relevant to the history and civilization of Islam and the literature and culture of the Arab world. See Arabic Minor Advisor to confirm whether a course may count as an elective toward the minor. Students may choose to satisfy elective credits through further Arabic language study.

*NOTE: Students who place into ARAB 305 will be permitted to take a minimum of 6 credits of Arabic language study and satisfy the rest of the minor requirements through elective courses.
